April 2012 – Mohall, N.D. – On March 22, 2012, the Mohall Ambulance Service with the Tolley and Lansford Ambulance Substations, was present a $4,000 check from the St. Joseph’s Community Health Foundation. The funds will be used to pay for 25 area ambulance attendant to take a 16 hour Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course.
The PHTLS course helps responders identify mechanisms of injury, interpret signs and symptoms, recognize life threatening injuries, understand pathophysiology, and hone responder assessment skills to perform appropriate interventions that will increase chances for patient survival. The course consists of both classroom and hands-on training. Working in small teams, responders’ skills are tested.
The course was held February 11-12 and taught by Emergency Training Associates North Dakota of Jamestown, N.D. The instructors were Vicki Berreth, Juanita Gorder and PJ Hardy, all from the Jamestown area. Ambulance services represented in the course were from Mohall, Tolley, Lansford, Sherwood, Bowbells, Berthold, and Community Ambulance Service of Minot.
