April 2020 – Minot, N.D. – Grants totaling $192,050 were distributed this week to support a wide variety of area projects, adding to the St. Joseph’s Community Health Foundation Twice Blessed grants given on Jan. 23 in the amount of $765,000.
Grants distributed to organizations are for projects that impact the mental, physical, spiritual and/or emotional well-being of people in the counties of Bottineau, Burke, McHenry, McLean, Mountrail, Pierce, Renville, Rolette, Sheridan, Ward and Wells.
Money will go toward fresh produce for diabetic individuals, new community resource center and food pantry, full-time registered nurse and medical supplies, nutritional meals for senior meal programs, sterile gloves, hand sanitizer, CPR rate monitor, emergency prescription supplies and emergency dental aid, health/foot care clinics for seniors, automatic external defibrillators, education for nurses, 21 area food pantries, rent and utility needs programs, supervised parenting exchange, mental health cultural arts project, walking path, playground, university scholarships, surveillance system and more.
“At this time of so many unknowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are especially thankful and grateful to the many organizations, board members, staff and volunteers who work tirelessly in our region to secure a better quality of life by identifying and serving the needs in their communities,” said Shelly Weppler, president, SJCHF.
Grant awards were as follows: Benedictine Living Center, Garrison, $3,500; Camp Bentley, $2,500; City of Columbus, $7,500; City of Velva, $3,000; Community Action Partnership, $10,000; Community Cupboard of Underwood, $1,000; Family Crisis Center, $3,000; Farm Safety 4 Just Kids, $3,000; First District Health Unit Safe Communities, $5,000; First District Health Unit CPR, $5,000; Garrison Area Resource Center and Food Pantry, $5,000; International Music Camp, $4,000; Kenmare Wheels & Meals, $10,000; Metigoshe Ministries, Bottineau, $4,000; Minot Family YMCA, $2,000; Minot Prairie Quilt Guild, $3,000; Minot State University Department of Nursing, $2,500; Mountrail Community Food Pantry, $6,000; Nedrose Public School, $4,000; North Dakota Association for the Disabled, $10,000; North Dakota Association of Drug Court Professionals, $2,000; Oak Valley Lutheran Church, $5,000; On the Water, $3,000; Rolette Community Care Center, $15,000; Souris Basin Transportation Board, $10,000; Turtle Mountrail Community College, $7,000; The Village Family Service Center, $25,000; and Vincent United Methodist Church-Sowers of Love, $3,000.
Scholarship contributions totalling $16,000 went to Minot State University nursing, communications disorders and social work departments and Dakota College at Bottineau.
